YGG, Angie

As you've probably heard, Angelina Jolie revealed this week that she has undergone a double mastectomy to prevent the 87% chance she had of developing breast cancer. After losing her mother at the far-too-young age of 56 to the disease, and learning that she carries the highly dangerous gene (BRCA1), Angie took this brave preventative step fully aware of how damaging the illness is.

In the midst of this courageous decision that should have been met with nothing but encouragement and support, the wretched misogynists of the internet have seen the situation through sexist and hate-clouded eyes. Making sickening comments about what a loss this is for the world, or repulsive "jokes" (if one could even call them that) about Brad Pitt leaving her.

How men (AND women shockingly enough) think any of this is funny, appropriate or remotely acceptable is completely beyond me.

I like to think that we've come so far in this world, and specifically this country, in terms of sexism and support for women, and then situations like this send me spiraling. To insinuate that A) A woman's breasts are all that make her feminine or attractive and B) That the incredibly painful decision to have them removed is anything other than agonizing, is disgusting.

PS- This woman who's dedicated her adult life to being a mother is also having her ovaries removed in the near future. Is that an issue for you too? Or no, since it doesn't contribute to her outward femininity or sex appeal? Probably not, you douchebags.

This juvenile preoccupation with breasts only highlights what INFANTS these individuals are, and we need to stand up against their misogyny and crudeness.

And now, on top of everything else, Ms. Jolie is turning her focuses and considerable means towards the issues of women's health care. She is taking her experience and knowledge to highlight the importance of scans and preventative measures for women across the country.

Angelina Jolie's courage is sexier than any body part could ever be.
Her commitment to her family, partner, life and global consciousness is more attractive than any breasts have ever been.

YGG, Angie. You fucking Go Girl.
